Eddie Niño was born in Bogotá, Colombia and moved to the United States at the age of 14. He continued his studies in New York City at Grand Central Academy of Art, The Art Students League of New York (with teachers such as Harvey Dinnerstein, Michael Grimaldi, and Max Ginsburg),and with noted art teacher Andrew Reiss in Brooklyn, NY.
Over the past ten years, Niño’s focus has been on traditional portraiture and still life painting using his favorite medium of oil. One of his many goals is to achieve more personal work inspired by artists such as Edwin Dickinson and Antonio Lopez Garcia.
Some of Eddie Niño’s accomplishments to date include: Solo Show at the Norwalk Museum, 2011, Best of Show in Rowayton Art Center’s “Expressions” Juried Show 2011, 1st place award in The Art Search International Juried Show- 2010, and 1st place award on The Norwalk Seaport Association Competition - 2004 and 2005. He also participated in the 2010 Stamford Downtown’s painted sculpture event: “It’s Reigning Cats and Dogs”, as well as Stamford’s Safari Animals (2003), and Art-O-Mobile (2001).
Eddie now teaches drawing and painting in his studio in Norwalk, Connecticut to students of all levels and paints realist portraiture and still life painting experimenting with both chiaroscuro and bright rich color.
Eddie Niño believes that there is no need to travel around the world to paint creative subject matter as there are hidden treasures in everyday life. This thought inspires Eddie to squeeze beauty from an instant. It’s not just about what the artist sees in front of him but the sincere interpretation of what he considers to be important and it’s his choice if the images are to be shared with an audience.
For Eddie there is “the one second window” in which at a particular moment of one’s day an image freezes, the world stops, and one has a second to retrieve that beauty by capturing it on paper.
After careful preparatory studies, Eddie paints letting the piece grow by itself and sometimes dictate a new surprising ending that only supports and adds to the spark of beauty. Each painting experience makes Eddie a witness of harmonious interplays of vivid color, contrasts of light and shadows, and rich textures which result on a unique piece of art.
